Program Details
The goal of the Seed Grant Program is to increase the number of successful multidisciplinary tobacco control research proposals submitted to Canadian funding agencies.
Seed Grant Objectives
- To facilitate the formation of multidisciplinary research teams that apply for funds and/or conduct research on a problem of priority for tobacco control in Canada.
- To enhance tobacco control research capacity by engaging students and investigators new to the field.
- To enhance tobacco control research capacity in currently underserved areas.
- To create improved linkages and collaboration between researchers from different disciplines, different institutions and/or different regions of Canada.
- To create improved exchange between researchers and policy makers, service providers and funders.
Amount: Maximum of $5000 each
Deadlines: December 15, 2008
Requirements if successful:
- Funds will be forwarded upon completion of the letter of agreement.
- Teams must submit a year end report that includes the funding proposal that they have developed and submitted as a result of the seed grant.
- Teams must acknowledge funding support of the ICE program in any public announcements, presentations or publications

Suggested Application Format (click here for printable version)
- The Problem or Issue: The specific problem or issue that the project will attempt to address (4 sentences maximum).
- Methods: Describe how you intend to use the money to develop a full funding proposal or other product relevant to the goal of this seed funding program. Please identify what agencies you think might fund your proposal or project (half page maximum).
- Partners: Provide the name, organizational affiliation, address, primary discipline or background and anticipated role in the application and the final project for each person involved in the project. Clearly identify who will be the lead investigator and what institution will administer the funds. IN ADDITION, participants may append either a short bio or CV of partners.
- Value Added: Identify which of the seed grant objectives your project will address and describe how your proposal will meet these objectives (half page maximum).
- Sustainability: Provide a clear outline of future steps related to sustainability, including the funding agencies which will be approached and who will lead in writing the proposal.
- Timeline: Provide a brief outline of the expected timing of each major component specified in the methods section.
- Budget: Briefly describe what funds you require and for what purpose.
- Signatures: Provide the name and signature of all those who have confirmed their willingness to play a significant role in the proposal.
