Background

There is a need to Build an evidence base to federal, provincial and regional policies, programs and media. While the field of clinical tobacco research is mature, there is surprisingly little science to inform population level interventions. This ICE project is designed to build national assets that enable researchers, policy makers, and program providers across Canada to jointly plan, implement and act on a strategic research agenda that provides rigorous, timely and pertinent evidence to inform tobacco control policies, programs and media.

Objectives

  1. To create pan-Canadian, multi-disciplinary Communities of Practice (i.e. networks) to produce research evidence in support of priority tobacco control issues.
  2. To create mechanisms to support knowledge translation/exchange.
  3. To enhance the number of investigators and institutions involved in tobacco control research, particularly in a manner that will enhance transdisciplinarity and reduce regional disparities.
  4. To enhance mutual learning, exchange and productivity of researchers and trainees.
  5. To create an electronic library to enhance access to data.
